About this trip

Kanyakumari sits at the southern tip of the mainland where the Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean meet, and it is one of the few places in India where you can watch the sun rise and set over the sea from the same spot.

Rameswaram, six hours up the coast, has the Ramanathaswamy temple with the longest temple corridor in India, and the ghost town of Dhanushkodi at the end of the spit.

How to reach: Fly to Thiruvananthapuram or Madurai, then by road. Usually done as a circuit with Madurai and Rameswaram rather than as a single stop.

When not to go: April to June heat, and the north-east monsoon in October and November

Questions people actually ask

Yes, Kanyakumari is one of very few places on the Indian mainland where both are visible over water, which is the main reason people come.
Yes. The abandoned town and the road out to the tip are the most memorable part of Rameswaram for most visitors.
As a circuit with Madurai and Rameswaram over four to five days. Kanyakumari alone does not justify the travel distance for most groups.
