Beach trips split cleanly into two kinds: the loud one and the quiet one. Most disappointment comes from booking a base in the wrong half, which is a fixable problem if someone asks you the right question first.
North Goa, South Goa, Gokarna, Varkala and the Kerala coast are all beach trips, and they are not remotely the same holiday.
Where this works best
Questions people actually ask
North Goa for nightlife, beach clubs and shorter distances between beaches. South Goa for quiet, cleaner beaches and a slower pace. Families and couples usually prefer South.
November to February for the west coast. The monsoon months of June to September are dramatic but water sports and most beach activities shut down.
