About this trip

Dalhousie is quieter than Shimla and greener than Manali, built across five hills with pine and deodar most of the way. Khajjiar, an hour away, is the wide grassy saucer ringed by forest that gets the mini Switzerland label.

This is the Himachal trip for a group that wants hills without the crowds, and it pairs naturally with Chamba for a bit of history.

How to reach: Overnight train or bus to Pathankot, then about three hours by road. Nearest airport is also Pathankot. We arrange the road leg.

When not to go: July and August, when rain limits the walks

  • Dainkund peak, the highest point around Dalhousie

Questions people actually ask

Usually not. It is a meadow with limited stay options and it empties out by evening. Base yourself in Dalhousie and visit for half a day.
Quieter and greener, with fewer crowds and less to do. If your group wants walks and pine forest, Dalhousie. If they want a busy Mall Road, Shimla.
Yes, typically late December to February, though less reliably than higher spots like Kufri or Solang.
