About this trip

McLeod Ganj is where the Dhauladhar range rises straight out of the town, which is why the views are so sudden here. It is the seat of the Tibetan community in India, so the food, the monasteries and the pace all feel different from the rest of Himachal.

For most groups this is the best value first trek in India. Triund is a single day up, a night under the ridge if you want it, and no technical skill required.

How to reach: Overnight Volvo from Delhi is the usual route. Flights land at Gaggal, about 45 minutes from McLeod Ganj. We arrange the pickup either way.

When not to go: July and August, when heavy rain makes the Triund trek unpleasant

Questions people actually ask

It is a steady uphill walk of about four to five hours, not a technical climb. Reasonably fit beginners manage it comfortably. No special gear needed beyond decent shoes.
McLeod Ganj. Lower Dharamshala is a half hour of winding road away and most of what visitors come for sits up top.
Yes, and it is our most requested Himachal pairing. Bir is roughly two hours away, so paragliding slots in as a day or an overnight.
