About this trip
Mussoorie sits on a ridge above Dehradun with the Doon valley on one side and, on a clear day, Himalayan peaks on the other. It is the closest proper hill station to Delhi and stays busy for exactly that reason.
The town itself is Mall Road and viewpoints. The better parts are just outside: Landour for quiet colonial lanes and cafes, and George Everest for the view without the crowd.
How to reach: Overnight train to Dehradun then about an hour by road, or a direct drive from Delhi NCR. Flights land at Jolly Grant.
When not to go: Peak May and June crowds, and heavy monsoon weeks
Trip highlights
- Landour, quieter and prettier than Mussoorie proper
- Gun Hill ropeway and Camel's Back Road
- George Everest house and the ridge walk to it
- Kempty falls, best visited early before the crowds
- Day trip to Dhanaulti for deodar forest
