About this trip

Jodhpur is dominated by Mehrangarh, which rises straight out of a rock face above the old town and is, by some distance, the most impressive fort in Rajasthan.

Below it the blue houses of the old city make the photographs everyone comes for. It is also the natural stop between Jaipur and Jaisalmer, which is how most groups fit it in.

How to reach: Rail and air connections from Delhi and Mumbai, and an easy road leg from Jaipur or Udaipur. Most groups reach it as part of a Rajasthan circuit.

When not to go: April to June heat

Trip highlights

  • The blue old town around Navchokiya
  • Jaswant Thada, the marble cenotaph
  • Toorji ka Jhalra stepwell and the cafes around it

Questions people actually ask

Yes, for Mehrangarh alone. Two nights is enough, and it sits naturally between Jaipur and Jaisalmer on a Rajasthan circuit.
About 285 km, roughly five hours by road. An overnight train also runs and saves a day.
Mostly the Navchokiya area of the old town, below the fort. The best views over them are from Mehrangarh's ramparts.
