Scuba diving in Andaman

Try-dives off Havelock and Neil, no experience needed

Where
Andaman Islands
Best time
November to May
Suits
Couples, friend groups, families with teenagers

Havelock (Swaraj Dweep) and Neil (Shaheed Dweep) are where most visitors try scuba diving in India. A beginner try-dive is a short, shallow dive with an instructor holding you the whole time, after a briefing and a practice session in shallow water.

Certified divers can do fun dives at deeper sites, and dive schools run full beginner certification courses over a few days. We plan the dive with your ferries and stays, booked through registered dive centres.

Good to know

  • Try-dives are designed for non-swimmers, with an instructor beside you throughout
  • Do not fly within about 18 to 24 hours after diving; plan the dive before the last full day
  • Sea conditions are best from about November to May
  • Dive centres ask a short medical questionnaire before any dive

For groups

  • Dive centres take small batches, so a group may dive across two slots
  • Plan the dive early in the trip, never the day before your flight home
  • Pair it with snorkelling for anyone who would rather stay on the surface
  • Ferries to Havelock and Neil fill first in December and January, book them first

How we arrange it

We book scuba diving in Andaman through licensed local operators and build it into your trip with the stay and transport. The activity shows as its own line in your written quote, so you see exactly what it costs per person.

  • Itemised quoteEvery quote is itemised: the hotel and room type for each night, the vehicle, and which meals are included, so you can compare it line by line.
  • Second opinion on any quoteAlready have a quote from another agency? Send it and we will tell you honestly whether we can do the same trip for less. If we cannot, we will say so.

Scuba diving in Andaman: questions people ask

It depends on the dive type (try-dive, fun dive or course), the dive site and boat trips. We show it as its own line in the itemised quote, next to ferries and stays.
Yes. Beginner try-dives are designed for non-swimmers: an instructor holds you throughout, in shallow water, after a practice session. The dive centre's medical form still applies.
Havelock has more dive centres and sites and is the usual choice. Neil is quieter. Many itineraries cover both with the dive on Havelock.
About November to May, when the sea is calmer and visibility better. Monsoon months bring rough seas and cancelled boats.
