Tiger safari in Ranthambore
Gypsy and canter safaris past old forts and lakes in Rajasthan
- Where
- Ranthambore
- Best time
- October to June
- Suits
- Families, couples, photographers, groups extending a Rajasthan trip
Ranthambore National Park near Sawai Madhopur is one of the best places in India to see a wild tiger, with a ruined fort, lakes and dry forest as the backdrop. Safaris run in numbered zones, either in a six-seat gypsy or a larger open canter.
Permits are booked through the Rajasthan forest department's official system and sell out early in the peak months. We plan the safari with your stay near the park and transport from Jaipur, Delhi or wherever you start.
Good to know
- Gypsies are smaller and quieter; canters take bigger groups at a lower cost per person
- The core zones close during the monsoon, roughly July to September
- Zones are allotted by the forest department; a specific zone can't always be promised
- Carry ID for every person, permits are issued in individual names
For groups
- A canter takes a whole group together, a gypsy suits six or fewer
- Book permits as soon as dates are fixed, October to April fills early
- Ranthambore pairs well with Jaipur, about 3 hours away by road
- Morning and afternoon safaris are separate permits; two safaris raise your chances

- Itemised quoteEvery quote is itemised: the hotel and room type for each night, the vehicle, and which meals are included, so you can compare it line by line.
- Second opinion on any quoteAlready have a quote from another agency? Send it and we will tell you honestly whether we can do the same trip for less. If we cannot, we will say so.
