About this trip
The Golden Temple is the reason to come and it exceeds the photographs, particularly lit up at night with the reflection in the tank. The langar there serves tens of thousands of people a day and visitors are welcome to eat and to help.
Around it, Amritsar is one of the best eating cities in the country, and Jallianwala Bagh next door is a sobering and necessary hour.
How to reach: Fast trains from Delhi in about six hours, direct flights from most metros, or an overnight bus. The city itself is compact.
