About this trip
Kaziranga holds roughly two thirds of the world's one-horned rhinos, and the grassland terrain means you tend to see them rather than hope to. Elephants, wild buffalo and swamp deer are common, and tigers are present if elusive.
Around the park, Assam is tea estates, the Brahmaputra and Majuli, the river island that is among the largest in the world and a completely different pace.
How to reach: Fly to Guwahati, then four to five hours by road to Kaziranga. Often combined with Shillong and Meghalaya.
When not to go: May to October, when the park closes for monsoon
